
HADAF Center For Human Rights organized an Expression Day under the title " Promoting Volunteer's Rights In the Gaza Strip ",, within activities of Advocacy Team of the project " Promoting Youth's Rights And Civic Engagement ", funded by ( EU & NHRF ).
The Expression Day started by a presentation from Mr. Ahmed Saken ( HADAF's Board Chair ), who indicated that volunteering is
a social movement aiming at stressing cooperation, and highlighting the humanitarian and civilized face of social relations, and that it preserves the humanitarian values, and consolidates integration among citizens, and encourages cooperation and development of the group spirit.
Importantly, Mr. Moheeb Sha'at ( Director Of Sharek ) shed light on some suggestion to come out of the crisis of backward of volunteering among youth including: volunteer's appreciation , respect from NGO's, and finding the proper mechanism to put an end to dissemination of the ephemeron of interest mutual relations in the Palestinian community in the general and the Palestinian NGO's in particular.
On the other hand, Mr. Salah Abdel- Atti ( Director of the Independent Commissioner For Human Rights – Gaza Office ), indicated that volunteering is one of the important merits that a democratic society NGO's, as this merit is linked with many guarantees including freedom of speech, foundation of associations, institutions and political parties. He also added that freedom of volunteering is wide, but to benefit from it completely, it is necessary to leno the limits and to respect regulations, as it is easy to establish as association and to find volunteers, but it is difficult to manage them effectively the long run.
On the other hand, Tayseer Muhaisen ( Youth and Development Expert ) spoke about the crises of civil society institutions which became clear with the alarming crises of the political system, as these NGO's are either weak to participate in the social and political effort, or easy mechanism in the hands of political pewers employing them for their partisan purposes, or some components claiming neutralism in order to be away and presence itself.
Finally, Musheera Tawfiq ( Member Of Advocacy Team ) highlighted the most important problems facing volunteers including:
1. Absence of independent organization that can defend them, guide them, and to raise awareness on their rights
2. Lack of confidence in volunteers
3. Absence of initiatives that encourages volunteer's
4. Disrespect of volunteer's interest and capabilities
5. Exploiting volunteer's efforts
